Melissa Hed is a speculative fiction writer. Her stories usually include Jewish characters whose spiritual beliefs are more mystical than mainstream. She is Co-Director of the #SquamWrites retreat, a 2020 graduate of the Breakout Novel Two-Year Story Lab, and a 2017 Pitch Wars Mentee.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Melissa was an attorney practicing small business and immigration law. In undergraduate school, she studied Latin American Literature and Fine Arts. She is also a certified energy healer and Usui Reiki Master.
Some of Melissa's favorite things include listening to audiobooks at twice their normal speed, binge-watching foreign dramas, sketching with soft lead pencils, sipping iced chai, and watching pollen-drunk bumblebees in her organic garden. She writes by moonlight and draws on her skin and has no intention of ever breaking either habit. Melissa currently resides in a forested town on the outskirts of Boston.
