Author Melissa Hed

Hey, there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm a speculative fiction writer. My stories usually include Jewish characters like me, whose spiritual beliefs are more mystical than mainstream. I'm Co-Director of the #SquamWrites retreat, an April 2021 graduate of Donald Maass and Lorin Oberweger's multi-year Story Lab program, and a 2017 Pitch Wars Mentee.

Before becoming a full-time writer, I was an in-house attorney for a consulting business. I also practiced immigration law, defending immigrants in deportation proceedings. In undergraduate school, I studied Latin American Literature and Fine Arts. I also studied energy medicine and psychology for three years and I'm a certified practitioner.

Some of my favorite pastimes include reading books, listening to audiobooks, binge-watching foreign dramas, playing with my dogs, petting my chickens, sketching with soft lead pencils, sipping iced coffee, and watching pollen-drunk bumblebees in my organic garden. I write by moonlight, draw sigils on my skin, and reside near an enchanted forest in a town outside of Boston.
